Description
Malawi Premium coffee is a rare African treasure of remarkable finesse, grown in the southern regions of Thyolo, Mulanje, Zomba, and Mangochi. Nestled between Tanzania and Zimbabwe, this landlocked country produces a superior quality arabica from its mountainous terroirs at around 1,000 meters of altitude. Despite its small size and minimal share of the global market, Malawi has developed an exceptional coffee culture driven by the passion of its smallholder farmers.
The coffee trees are planted on terraces—an ingenious technique that preserves the fertile soil and prevents erosion. These plantations, supported by local cooperatives, enable nearly 500,000 small-scale farmers to make a living from coffee production. The crop was introduced in the 19th century by Scottish missionaries, and according to legend, it all began with a single coffee bush brought from the Edinburgh Botanical Garden by John Buchanan.
Upon tasting, Malawi Premium impresses with its balance and aromatic richness. Its slightly darker roast reveals intense notes of dark chocolate and nuts, enhanced by a lively citrus freshness. When prepared as filter coffee or with a French press, it fully expresses its smooth, rounded character, finishing with subtle caramel undertones.
This distinctive coffee perfectly illustrates the expertise and resilience of Malawian growers. Smooth, aromatic, and generous, Malawi Premium invites you to discover a rare and authentic arabica—an embodiment of tradition and passion.
