Among the great wines that shape the imagination of the Côte de Nuits, the Clos de Vougeot 2022 from Domaine de la Vougeraie asserts itself as a tale of stone and patience. Here, Pinot Noir finds a highly precise expression, carried by the harmonious union of two distinctive sites within the Clos, Montiottes Hautes on the mid-slope and Baudes Saint-Martin lower down, where calcareous sediments meet stony silty soils. Biodynamics, practised with rigour, establishes an intimate dialogue between vine and soil, offering a framework both silky and structured. The luminous, generous 2022 vintage has been handled with restraint to preserve floral lift, mineral tension and a tannic signature of rare poise. Intended for lovers of pure emotion as well as gastronomes, this Grand Cru reconciles volume, uprightness and depth, and promises a refined evolution over more than a decade.

Blend and vinification

This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, drawn from two complementary parcels within the Clos. The high planting density, around 10 000 vines per hectare, promotes root competition and berry concentration. A majority massal selection on the upper slopes and clonal selection at the lower part of the Clos ensure diversity of expression, while a measured yield of around 22 hl/ha concentrates aromatic brilliance. Extractions are conducted with finesse to capture the fineness of the grain without harshness, respecting the material and balance of the vintage. The house philosophy favours restraint, clarity of terroir and precise élevage management, so that every mineral nuance and floral inflection asserts itself naturally and with length.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance: Deep garnet with velvety highlights, clear and intense, coating the glass and announcing polished concentration.
  • Nose: A refined bouquet of peony and violet, black cherry and wild raspberry, lifted by rose-petal nuances, fine pepper and cold stone. On aeration, delicate Havana notes and a hint of clove emerge.
  • Palate: Silky attack, then a broad mid-palate that combines volume and uprightness. Chiseled tannins, noble grain, sapid energy. The finish is long and precise, with that austere and powerful character that signs the great terroirs of the Clos, leaving a persistent mineral imprint.

Serving temperature and advice

Serve at 16°C in large glasses to expand the floral range and refine the tannic texture. A prior decanting of 30 to 45 minutes enhances aromatic purity without dulling the wine's momentum. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark and stable cellar. The wine has a cellaring potential exceeding 15 years, during which the floral thread will meld into a complexity of forest-floor notes, truffle and fine spices, while preserving remarkable structure.
