Description
As the rosé signature of a great Champagne house, the Pol Roger Rosé Vintage 2019 embodies a festive expression where precision meets emotion. Born from a balanced vintage, it marries the juiciness of red fruit with the backbone of a fresh structure, in a Brut style that favours brightness and purity on the palate. Selected from around twenty crus in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, this Champagne AOC draws its nobility from some of the most sought-after terroirs. Meticulous vinification and extended cellar ageing refine the material, tame the bubbles and sculpt a silky texture. At aperitif time it charms with immediate appeal. At the table it converses with delicate dishes, revealing its gastronomic side. Presented in a gift box, it makes an elegant present designed to elevate a moment, an encounter, a memory in the making.
Blend and vinification
The Pol Roger Rosé Vintage 2019 predominantly blends Pinot Noir with the finesse of Chardonnay for a distinctive balance, at approximately 63.5% Pinot Noir and 36.5% Chardonnay. Before the second fermentation, about 18% red Pinot Noir, vinified as a red wine, is included in the blend. From villages renowned such as Bouzy, Ambonnay and Cumières, it gives the cuvée its rosé tint but, above all, a broader aromatic dimension—a form of fruity depth that supports the wine without weighing it down. The chosen crus, Grands and Premiers Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, provide backbone and tension, flesh and relief. The long ageing, of around five years on lees in the historic cellars of Épernay, refines the effervescence, unfolds textural complexities and gives the finish admirable persistence. Dosage is Brut at about 8 g/l, with an alcohol level of 12.5 % vol, this vintage rosé combines energy and elegance with remarkable control.
Tasting notes
- Appearance : Salmon pink with subtle orange highlights, crossed by a fine, persistent effervescence. The light plays on the hue, promising a wine both expressive and refined.
- Nose : Initially a bouquet of wild strawberries, raspberry and black cherry, followed by rose petals that add a floral grace. On airing, reminders of strawberry tart and fruit sweets mingle with a more exotic touch—pineapple and lychee—for a delicate, airy complexity.
- Palate : The attack opens on the pulp of red fruit, quickly taken up by a lively freshness and a mineral thread that lengthen the line. The Brut style ensures a clean structure, with no concession to sweetness, while the mousse, of particularly fine grain, wraps the palate. Subtle notes of brioche and almond emerge, contributing to a long, pure, savoury finish that naturally calls for food.
Serving temperature and tips
Serve this vintage rosé between 8 and 10 °C in tulip glasses to showcase the finesse of its effervescence and the complexity of its bouquet. A short opening time, while preparing the first dishes, is enough to reveal its fruity and floral nuances. Aim for gradual chilling, avoiding excessive cold that would mute the aromas. Store the bottle lying down, protected from light, in a cool, steady environment. As an aperitif it expresses immediate charm. At the table it gains depth and precision through the pairings, demonstrating the craft of a rosé that can accompany an entire meal.
Food pairings
- Seafood aperitifs : oysters, smoked salmon, sushi and sashimi for a union of freshness and saline lift.
- Iodine-rich starters : delicate ceviche, white fish tartares, where vivacity highlights texture.
- Grilled fish : gilthead bream, sea bass or seared tuna—these fillets call for the fruit of Pinot Noir and the lift of Chardonnay.
- Roast poultry : juicy meat, crisp skin—this combination answers the wine’s structure and finesse.
- Fruit desserts : red fruit tarts, raspberry desserts, where fruit acidity dialogues with the cuvée’s freshness.
