Description

Among the emblematic cuvées of Maison Taittinger, Prélude Grand Cru celebrates the suspended moment when promise becomes sensation. Made from grapes sourced exclusively from villages classified 100 % Grand Cru, this cuvée stages a dialogue of rare balance between the elegance of Chardonnay and the stature of Pinot Noir. Selected from first press juice and patiently aged on lees in bottle for around five years, this carefully crafted composition yields a Champagne of great style, precise, vibrant and generous, designed to accompany the rites of hospitality as well as the most delicate seafood platters. Its caressing effervescence, structuring freshness and a highly pure aromatic profile deliver a deeply sensory tasting experience, measured and controlled, where citrus brightness meets the softness of lightly candied white fruit.

Assemblage et vinification

Prélude Grand Cru is a Champagne AOC Brut, non-vintage, produced in equal parts of Chardonnay (50 %) and Pinot Noir (50 %). The Chardonnay mainly comes from the Côte des Blancs, notably Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, bringing tension, uprightness and mineral purity. The Pinot Noir, from the Montagne de Reims, mainly Mailly, Bouzy and Ambonnay, provides structure, fruity energy and depth. The House favors first press juice to preserve brightness and finesse. Secondary fermentation is followed by an aging on lees of about five years, well beyond the regulatory minimum, ensuring a silkier texture, more complex aromas and a very delicate mousse. The whole composes a style of clear precision, perfectly held by a Brut dosage that enhances the wine’s natural balance.

Notes de dégustation

  • Appearance: luminous pale yellow with silvery highlights, fine and steady effervescence forming a creamy bead, indicative of long aging on lees.
  • Nose: fresh and precise opening, first marked by a mineral thread, then nuances of white flowers, elderflower, gentle spices such as cinnamon, followed by touches of biscuit, brioche and gently toasted dried fruits.
  • Palate: a clean, lively attack driven by citrus, lemon and grapefruit, evolving into a broader mid-palate evoking syruped white peach. The finish extends on a savory tension, Chardonnay’s minerality balancing Pinot Noir’s aromatic richness. Long, mouthwatering and very structured finish.

Serving temperature and tips

Serve Prélude Grand Cru between 8 and 10°C to reveal the integrity of its texture and the finesse of its bouquet. A tulip glass or a small-volume white wine glass will showcase the aromatic complexity without stifling the effervescence. Open the bottle a few minutes before serving to harmonize freshness and aromatic expression. Store it calmly, away from light, at a constant temperature and controlled humidity. This cuvée, already fully accomplished, can be kept for a few years to develop brioche, fine honey and dried fruit notes, while preserving a fresh, linear backbone.

Food pairings

  • Aperitifs: fine oysters, whelks and grey shrimp, light gougères with young Comté.
  • Starters: scallop carpaccio, sea bass sashimi, sea bream tartare with citrus.
  • Main courses: sole meunière, roasted turbot, just-seared langoustines, asparagus risotto.
  • Cheeses: fresh goat cheeses, 18-month Parmesan, light tomme that respects the wine’s freshness.
  • Desserts: lightly sweetened thin lemon tart, poached citrus, vanilla shortbread.

Moments to enjoy

Taittinger Prélude Grand Cru is the natural companion for selected moments when you want to offer guests a high-quality signature, both luminous and precise.

  • For a reception aperitif where freshness and purity set the tone for conviviality.
  • During a seafood menu featuring shellfish and delicate fish, seeking a vibrant, textured Champagne.
  • As a thoughtful gift for an enthusiast who appreciates the balance between tension and generosity.
