Description
Rare union of a Champagne icon and a designer's vision, Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2018, Edition Simon Porte Jacquemus expresses the quintessence of the House while celebrating Madame Clicquot's founding boldness. As a vintage of expression, 2018 produced grapes with luminous balance, allowing a clear reading of the Pinot Noir predominance and the airy touch of Chardonnay. The pale golden robe with crystalline brilliance announces a fine-grained effervescence, almost tactile, that unfolds a sculpted, enveloping texture. Beyond its precision, the cuvée charms with a graphical emotion, extended by a limited edition box signed Simon Porte Jacquemus, where minimalism and colour pay tribute to the House's architectural elegance. Intended for lovers of characterful wines and for collectors sensitive to the beauty of the object, it offers a haute couture tasting, a vibrant echo of the French art of living.
Assemblage et vinification
This prestige cuvée is composed of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, mainly sourced from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. The choice of a Pinot Noir-led blend brings energy, verticality and saline depth, while the Chardonnay provides floral grace and final tension. The Brut dosage at 6 g/L preserves the drive and purity of the fruit. Several years' aging on the lees refines the structure, mellows the effervescence and deepens the toasty nuances. At every stage, the pursuit of precision guides the work to reveal a straight, vibrant wine built on delicate citrus, the flesh of white fruits and a chalky signature that complements great gastronomic moments.
Notes de dégustation
- Appearance: Light gold with crystalline brilliance, animated by a very fine and regular mousse that draws a persistent bead, promising a satiny texture.
- Nose: Initial notes of finely cut citrus, lemon, yuzu, pink grapefruit, followed by clean white fruits, crisp pear and fresh apple. White flowers, wet stone, a saline hint and delicate toast evoke long lees ageing.
- Palate: Straight attack, silky yet nervy texture. The mid-palate unfolds a precise score, mixing zesty tension, pear flesh, subtle floral notes and chalky salinity. The finish extends with echoes of delicately ripe red fruits and toasted bread, with elegant persistence.
Température de service et conseils
Serve between 9 and 11°C in tulip glasses to highlight the finesse of the bubbles and the aromatic complexity. Allow the bottle to open for a few minutes while chilled before serving to reveal the bouquet without disturbing the balance. Store bottles on their sides, away from light and temperature fluctuations. This vintage has a cellaring potential until 2040, offering today a precise and taut expression, and in time deeper nuances where brioche notes and red fruit accents will gain prominence.
Accords mets et vin
- Aperitifs: fine Claire oysters, tartlet with candied citrus, gougères with aged Comté.
- Starters: scallop carpaccio with yuzu, sea bream ceviche, white asparagus with mousseline sauce.
- Mains: roasted langoustines, sole meunière with brown butter, Bresse chicken with reduced jus and preserved lemon.
- Cheeses: Comté 24 months, aged Parmesan, truffled Brillat-Savarin.
