Château Le Gay 2022 - Pomerol AOC is an eminent terroir-driven red, carried by the nobility of Merlot and the precision of Cabernet Franc. Born on the iconic gravel and clay soils of Pomerol and crafted by the Parent family with the expertise of Michel Rolland, it benefits from a full micro-vinification in new oak barrels that refines the texture and enhances depth. The bouquet opens on blackberry and baked plum, underscored by notes of forest floor, iron-rich stone and mossy bark. The palate, dense and silky, unfolds velvety tannins, perfectly controlled freshness and a long, spicy finish. A refined cuvée for your finest tables, with attractive ageing potential.

Care at every stage, from vine to élevage, shapes a wine of great presence, conceived for moments where fine dining meets suspended emotion. Its captivating bouquet, rounded tannins and spicy persistence answer a single promise: immediate pleasure without sacrificing complexity or ageing potential. This is a Pomerol that reconciles flesh, relief and precision, to elevate your seasonal dinners as well as your most accomplished gastronomic pairings.
Assemblage et vinification
From a vineyard of about 12 hectares, of which 10.5 hectares are in production, planted on the gravels and clays that define Pomerol’s identity, the 2022 is composed mainly of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The vines, with an average age of around 25 years, were hand-harvested between 5 and 19 September 2022, with a thorough double sorting in the cellar. The distinctive approach lies in a full micro-vinification in new oak barrels, preceded by a pre-fermentation maceration of 12 days at 6°C to preserve aromatic profile and polish the material. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, followed by extended ageing in new wood that refines the framework and weaves a silky texture. The imprint of the terroir is combined with technical rigour, under the eye of Michel Rolland, to deliver a wine both ample and finely chiselled, with an alcohol content of 14,5%.
Notes de dégustation
- Colour : Deep and glossy, it immediately announces confident concentration and voluptuous material, animated by a clear glow that signals precise élevage.
- Nose : Harmonious intensity of blackberries and baked plums, lifted by nuances of forest floor, iron ore and mossy bark. Fine spice hints and a discreet graphite note add relief and depth.
- Palate : Generous attack, a fleshy mid-palate on candied dark fruits, very velvety tannins, perfectly measured freshness. The long, persistent finish unfolds a savoury, spicy thread that calls for food.
Service temperature and advice
Serve this Pomerol between 16 and 18°C in large glasses to release its aromatic depth and the silky texture of the material. For this young vintage, a gentle decant of one to two hours helps the bouquet bloom and softens the tannic expression. Stored in a cool cellar, protected from vibrations and light, the Château Le Gay 2022 offers a cellaring potential of around 15 years. You can therefore choose between the pleasure of bright youth, dominated by sap and dark fruit, and the nobility of a tertiary bouquet polished by time, where spicy structure, undergrowth and smoky complexities come forward.
Food pairings
- Gourmet aperitifs : refined charcuterie, game terrines, gentle spiced pâtés en croûte.
- Starters : slow-cooked egg with seasonal mushrooms, thin cep tart, truffled Jerusalem artichoke velouté.
- Main courses : roasted beef fillet, veal chop with reduced jus, lacquered pigeon or duckling, risotto with brown mushrooms.
- Cheeses : aged Comté, old Mimolette, firm mountain tomme.
- Dessert finish : variations around lightly sweetened cocoa or a subtly sweet praline, to highlight the spice and graphite notes.
