Description

Bearing the Premier Cru Supérieur distinction, the Château d’Yquem 2009 in Magnum embodies an opulent vision tempered by grace. The larger format amplifies everything we love about Yquem: slower ageing, complexity that unfolds with majestic serenity, and a commanding table presence to celebrate the art of living. Blessed in 2009 with exemplary weather and ideal botrytisation, this Sauternes AOP expresses itself in an unusually broad aromatic score, marrying exotic fruits and spices, glyceric depth and crystalline length. Each sip evokes the golden light of late harvests, the meticulous successive selections and the careful maturation in new wood. A wine for contemplation as well as gastronomy, designed for those who give the best without ever sacrificing elegance. Connoisseurs will recognise the signature of a sovereign, sun-drenched vintage, praised by top critics, and destined for exceptional ageing.

Assemblage et vinification

An emblematic Sauternes blend, the cuvée favours majority Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc in support, ensuring balance, tension and refined aromatics. The berries, hand-picked in successive tries as noble rot develops, concentrate the essence of the terroir. Fermentation takes place in barrels, followed by a roughly 20-month ageing in new oak barrels, a true setting that shapes the wine without weighing it down. This patience tempers the richness and refines the texture, revealing subtle vanilla and pastry notes, while Yquem's hallmark acidity provides lift and precision. The magnum format, thanks to its beneficial inertia, encourages harmonious evolution and preserved freshness, promising extended cellaring.

Notes de dégustation

  • Robe : Deep, luminous gold with honeyed highlights and a clear brilliance that announces concentration and purity.
  • Nez : Deep and nuanced, it blends white peach and candied pineapple with touches of coconut. A register of soft spices, nutmeg and cinnamon, merges with notes of toasted bread, caramel and vanilla, for a broad and finely chiselled bouquet.
  • Bouche : Velvety attack, luscious texture perfectly balanced by a sapid freshness. The finish, long and airy, leaves a trail of candied citrus peel, light honey and spices, with a highly distinguished salivating persistence.

Température de service et conseils

Serve this Sauternes between 8 and 12°C in tasting white wine glasses to allow the aromatic complexity and precise texture to open up. Open the bottle a few minutes before service to encourage the release of aromas. Store the magnum away from light, at stable temperature and humidity. Its cellaring potential is between 2015 and 2035, depending on cellar conditions, with particularly graceful evolution in magnum that enhances silkiness and depth without losing fruit brightness.

Accords mets et vin

  • Apéritifs : semi-cooked foie gras, mango chutney, warm brioche, or delicate Comté gougères for a high-level sweet-saline contrast.
  • Entrées : spiced roasted lobster, scallop carpaccio with citrus, poultry terrine with dried fruit.
  • Plats : Bresse chicken with morels, silky and mildly spiced Asian cuisine, saffron risotto with caramelised butternut.
  • Fromages : bold blues like Roquefort or Fourme d'Ambert, as well as an aged Comté with tyrosine crystals.
  • Desserts : vanilla-roasted pineapple, thin apricot tart, crème brûlée, candied citrus sabayon.

Moments de dégustation

The Château d’Yquem 2009 in magnum is the perfect companion:

  • For an exceptional event where the generosity of the large format enhances sharing.
  • At the heart of a gourmet dinner, when the right pairing highlights its complexity and structure.
  • As a cellar treasure, intended for a discerning collector or passed on as a gustatory heirloom.
