Its cellar potential stretches over several decades, for a lasting, composed emotion at the connoisseur's table.
Description
Among the most exclusive cuvées of the southern Rhône, Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2022, a Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC red from Château de Beaucastel, celebrates the visionary spirit of a family and the nobility of Mourvèdre. On the northern edge of the appellation, old vines rooted in a patchwork of rolled pebbles, calcareous clays and silty sands produce a wine of structure and purity. Meticulous hand-harvesting, very low yields, patient élevage, everything converges to reveal a deep, precise and luminous expression. The 2022 vintage combines density and freshness, delivering a broad and nuanced aromatic palette, a craftsmanlike tannic weave and a discreet salinity that stretches the finish. For the demanding enthusiast, this is a red for contemplation and the table, capable of travelling through the years with sovereign grace.
Assemblage et vinification
The personality of this cuvée draws its verticality from a dominant Mourvèdre, complemented by Syrah and Grenache, with touches of Muscardin, Vaccarèse and Cinsault in the spirit of the appellation. The Mourvèdres, largely from vines over 90 years old, are sorted berry by berry, then vinified in tapered wooden vats to extract body and noble tannins without harshness. The Syrah follows the same protocol, while the Grenache ferments in concrete and sandstone vats to preserve its brightness. Fermentations, conducted with clockwork precision, respect the integrity of the fruit. The blend is then refined 12 months in 40 hl oak foudres, which polishes the texture and harmonises the components without imprinting the wine. Viticulture is organic, serving a clear reading of the terroir and a natural balance.
Notes de dégustation
- Colour : Deep and dense with dark nuances, it announces controlled concentration and a luminous ripeness, promising harmonious development over the years.
- Nose : A highly complex bouquet woven from violet and garrigue herbs such as thyme, nuanced by notes of cocoa, liquorice and leather. Then come black olive, graphite, juicy black fruits and a hint of incense. Giving the glass time reveals a deep mineral thread and a fine spicy register.
- Palate : Ample and straight attack, a core of juicy black fruits, powerful yet edged tannins, tight and silky grain. Sovereign balance between concentration, length and freshness. Persistent, vibrant finish with saline and spicy inflections that sign the terroir.
Température de service et conseils
Serve between 16 and 17°C in large tulip glasses to embrace the aromatic depth and texture. A long decanting is recommended when young to unfold the palette and soften the structure. This wine has a cellaring potential of around 30 years and will gain complexity over time; best opened preferably from 2032, with a peak estimated between 2034 and 2056. Store bottles on their side, away from light, in a cool, humid cellar to preserve the aromatic integrity and drive of the wine.
Accords mets et vin
- Aperitifs : artisanal charcuterie, black olive tapenade, shards of cured ham, Nyons olives.
- Starters : game terrine with lingonberries, pan-fried porcini with mild garlic, knife-cut beef tartare lightly spiced.
- Main courses : roasted saddle of venison, grilled côte de bœuf, confit lamb shoulder with garrigue herbs, roast pigeon with cocoa.
