Description
Adorned with the timeless elegance that distinguishes the House, the Collection 246 by Louis Roederer is presented in a premium gift box with two flutes, a true manifesto of refined conviviality. A multi-vintage Champagne AOC Brut, this signature combines the energy of Chardonnay, the structure of Pinot Noir and the roundness of Meunier. Its secret lies in the art of blending, where wines of the year and patient reserves weave a harmony of great purity. The nose opens on mirabelle plum and nectarine, then moves to delicately candied citrus and toasted reminiscences. The palate, broad and caressing, is brightened by an iodized freshness and a fine chalky thread, like a ray of light on the Champagne chalk. With a single gesture, the flutes included in the box orchestrate the effervescence and promise a carefully shared moment, worthy of the occasions that matter.
Blend and vinification
The Collection 246 embodies the philosophy of a numbered blend, each edition being the result of a base vintage enhanced by the memory of past years. Here, approximately 55% of wines from 2021 form the backbone of the wine, enlivened by a perpetual reserve of about 35% covering the 2012–2020 vintages, and by 10% reserve wines aged in barrel from 2012 to 2017. The blend brings together 54% Chardonnay for finesse and length, 35% Pinot Noir for structure and backbone, 11% Meunier for body and fruity drive. Around 24% of the wines are barrel-aged, which adds dimension without masking the fruit's brightness. A partial malolactic fermentation of about 30% preserves tension and verticality, while a controlled dosage of 7 g/L ensures crystalline balance. The crus come in equal parts from the Vallée de la Marne called La Rivière, the Montagne de Reims called La Montagne, and the Côte des Blancs called La Côte—viticultural landscapes that converse here with precision. From harvest to the secondary fermentation, each step safeguards aromatic precision, delivering a clear expression of the Roederer style: ample yet sculpted, vibrant and silky at once.
Tasting notes
- Appearance : Pale gold crossed by a fine, regular effervescence, a delicate shimmer that foretells a creamy texture.
- Nose : Ripe yellow fruits, mirabelle plum and nectarine, lifted by candied citrus, toasty touches and a caress of vanilla. A mineral breath evokes shell and a saline sea breeze.
- Palate : Fruity entry on peach, floral development, a chalky and saline core, creamy and slightly powdery texture. The finish extends with a smoky nuance and a lively vibrancy.
Serving temperature and tips
Serve this cuvée between 8 and 10°C to reveal the precision of its aromas and the finesse of its mousse. A few minutes of aeration in the glass allow the bouquet to open and express its saline and chalky register. The two flutes included in the box offer an elegant presentation of the effervescence. Store your bottles calmly, away from light, and allow 3 to 4 years of cellar time if you wish to round the texture and further develop the bouquet.
Food pairings
- Aperitifs : light puff pastry bites, grilled vegetable tartlets, thinly sliced aged ham.
- Fine charcuterie : coppa, bresaola, quality rosette served with lightly toasted country bread.
- Grilled fish : dorade or sea bass on the plancha, a squeeze of lemon, olive oil and fresh herbs.
- Roasted poultry : juicy meat with crispy skin, reduced jus, glazed root vegetables.
- Cheeses : young Comté, fresh tomme, delicate goat cheeses that respect the wine's tension.
Moments to enjoy
The Collection 246 is best enjoyed when you want to elevate the everyday. Its saline thread and satiny texture make it a choice companion, whether for a spontaneous get-together or a carefully set table. The box and its flutes transform a simple gesture into a hospitality ritual, a nod to the art of entertaining.
