Ruinart - R de Ruinart millésime 2016 - Brut - Champagne AOC
€93.33 /L
R de Ruinart 2016 Brut Millésimé delivers a luminous interpretation of the Champagne terroir, where Chardonnay leads the way, supported by the Pinots in a refined counterpoint. Aged for at least six years on the lees and dosed at 5 g/L, this cuvée combines chalky freshness, crisp white fruit and noble bitters with saline accents. The texture unfolds gracefully, carried by exceptionally fine effervescence, and stretches into a straight, zesty and persistent finish. Served at 7 to 10°C, it elevates a scallop carpaccio, Bresse chicken or a monkfish blanquette. A great vintage Champagne—precise and vibrant—designed for chosen moments and lovers of finely balanced wines.
Description
Blend and winemaking
From the 2016 harvest and composed with a keen sense of balance, this blend brings together 48% Chardonnay, 32% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, mainly selected from the Grands et Premiers Crus of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The Chardonnay backbone gives a crystalline structure and uprightness, while the Pinots contribute flesh, resonance and aromatic depth. The wine is aged for a minimum of six years on the lees, a maturation time that polishes the texture, refines the mousse and unfolds a discreet complexity. The dosage of 5 g/L anchors the cuvée in a very clear Brut expression, preserving mineral drive and freshness on the palate. Framed by the chalk, this patient ageing and precise dosage carve a champagne of line—broad yet slender, tactile yet airy—ready to open onto a long and persistent sensory palette.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: Pale, sparkling gold with silver reflections and occasional yellow-orange highlights, animated by a very fine and regular effervescence. The clarity evokes the purity of chalk, while the brilliance testifies to long ageing that has smoothed the texture of the bubbles.
- Nose: First impressions of crisp pear and fig leaf, followed by a weave of delicate spices such as fennel, cardamom and a hint of liquorice. Next come dried linden, notes of green tea, exotic and yellow fruits, uplifted by biscuits, cereals and dried fruit. A saline minerality emerges in the background, laying down the terroir signature.
- Palate: Fresh, broad and creamy attack at once, where white fruits unfold in a clear and direct motion. The structure is dynamic, carried by a caressing effervescence. The finish is long and precise, extending with zesty touches, a noble bitterness and saline notes that call for gastronomy.
Serving temperature and tips
Serve this vintage between 7 and 10°C in tulip glasses to highlight the finesse of the bubbles and aromatic complexity. Allow about ten minutes after opening for the bouquet to naturally unfurl. Store bottles in a calm, dark place at a constant temperature to preserve freshness and the integrity of the cuvée. The wine is expressive today with great precision, while having the potential to evolve harmoniously depending on storage conditions. Avoid thermal shocks and favour an understated presentation, where the glassware and temperature interact with the wine without constraining it. At the table, serve it at the start of the meal to underline its momentum, or as a guiding thread through a delicate seafood menu.
Food pairings
- Aperitifs: light gougères, herb tartlets, crunchy radishes with smoked butter.
- Starters: scallop carpaccio, soft-boiled eggs infused with linden, sea bream tartare with citrus.
- Mains: roasted Bresse chicken with a light jus, guinea fowl with mild spices, monkfish blanquette with spring vegetables.
- Cheeses: young Comté, Chaource, matured pressed-paste tomme, served lightly chilled.
- Desserts: thin pear tart, lightly candied citrus, lightly sweetened almond biscuit.
