Description

In the tradition of Burgundy's great Pinot Noirs, the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2023, Domaine de l’Arlot embodies the grace of a legendary cru where time seems to stand still. The vine converses with light and limestone, producing a wine both finely etched and caressing, with a depth that never overpowers elegance. For collectors, gastronomes and table aesthetes, this Grand Cru answers the desire for a bottle that tells of place and craft, without ostentation, with the delicate restraint of rare things. As an expressive vintage, 2023 marks fruit in full form, an iconic silkiness and a lean energy. The ruby robe catches the eye, the nose unfolds like a great melody, the palate launches with the naturalness of an evident truth. Guided by the estate's vision, this cuvée marries precision, substance and purity, offering a couture interpretation of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, a terroir neighbouring Romanée-Conti where finesse becomes the horizon.

Blend and winemaking

Produced exclusively from Pinot Noir of the 2023 harvest, this Grand Cru comes from an argilo-calcaire terroir whose depth feeds the wine's complexity and structure. The vineyard management in biodynamie favours the living balance of the soil and the grape's precision, while the whole-bunch harvest, chosen with discernment, preserves the integrity of the berries and the freshness of the infusions. Winemaking, borne of patient know-how, aims for the most accurate extraction to highlight the tannic lace without weighing down the texture. The oak barrel ageing incorporates 30 à 50% de barriques neuves depending on the lots, to support the wine without dominating it, and to add a discreet roundness to the aromatic framework. Under the impetus of the AXA Millésimes team and the signature of winemaker Géraldine Godot, every choice, from picking to racking, seeks the clear expression of the cru, its tactile softness and its mineral vibration.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance: Bright ruby with garnet highlights, clear and deep. The brilliance of the disk signals a pure, precise matter, while the legs, fine and regular, promise a silky texture and a delicate concentration without heaviness.
  • Nose: Immediately, a basket of black cherry, raspberry jelly and blackberry opens up, joined by violet and a hint of sweet spice. With aeration, nuances of undergrowth, dried leaf and a caress of fine leather emerge. The whole breathes the sensuality of Vosne Pinots, with floral precision and an earthy depth that sign the place.
  • Palate: A caressing attack, a generous mid-palate and a silky texture. The tannic frame, admirably lacy, carries vivid fruit, while a subtle minerality stretches the silhouette. The balance between intensity and grace is expressed in a long, mouthwatering and savoury finish, where pulpy cherry, violet and a note of fine cocoa return.

Serving temperature and advice

Serve between 16 and 17°C in large Burgundy glasses to encourage the bouquet to open and the tannins to unfold. Open the bottle about thirty minutes before serving, then decant gently if the wine presents as tight, favouring measured aeration. Store in a cool, dark and stable cellar to preserve the aromatic integrity and the slow patina of bottle ageing. This Grand Cru has a notable potentiel de garde, which will allow the texture to gain in velvet and the floral and earthy nuances to harmonise with even more brilliance.

Food and wine pairings

  • Beef fillet with truffles: the nobility of the tannic grain and the depth of the fruit envelop the truffle; the concentrated jus answers the cru's sap, the whole gaining in richness.
  • Roast duck: the juicy flesh meets black cherry and sweet spices; the savoury finish highlights the crispy skin without ever overpowering the dish.
  • Capon with porcini: the notes of undergrowth and violet naturally pair with porcini; the satin texture elevates the delicate flesh and the perfumed jus.
  • Seared sweetbreads, reduced jus: the delicacy of the sweetbreads unites with the wine's silkiness; the subtle oak ageing dialogues with the glaze and amplifies the length.
  • Matured soft cheeses: truffled brie, tempered Époisses, Brillat-Savarin. The wine's aromatic maturity softens the salt and reveals the cheese's creaminess.

Tasting occasions

This Grand Cru is called for when you want to elevate a meal and mark an occasion, with the restraint and brilliance of a great Burgundian work. It accompanies conversation, inspires the kitchen and offers itself as a rare gift.

  • To celebrate a special event where memories are engraved with elegance.
  • At a gourmet dinner that calls for nuance, depth and a velvety texture.
  • As an exceptional gift for a knowledgeable enthusiast or a cellar seeking soul.
