Description

A classic presence on the Côte de Beaune, the Puligny-Montrachet Village 2022 from Domaine Louis Latour stands as a luminous page in the great Burgundy literature. On the limestone slopes of Puligny, vines of about thirty years draw a hidden energy that shapes a high-quality Chardonnay, both taut and caressing. Hand-harvested and crafted with meticulous care, this wine seeks the right balance, where the fruit's brightness blends with precise oak without ever dominating. Its texture, both silky and ascending, rests on a discreet mineral thread that extends the sapidity. For those who enjoy refined wines that are expressive yet nuanced, this cuvée evokes the French art of living—delicate texture, aromatic purity and exemplary gastronomic presence.

Blend and winemaking

Made exclusively from Chardonnay, this Puligny-Montrachet comes from vines of about 30 years rooted in limestone and scree soils, sources of tension and drive. The hand-harvest preserves the integrity of the berries. Fermentation is carried out traditionally in French oak barrels, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation which brings breadth and suppleness. The 8 to 10 months' ageing takes place in barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, medium toast, with around 15 % new oak to suggest structure without masking the cru's identity. The average yield observed is approximately 45 hl/ha, ensuring a balance between aromatic expression and palate precision.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance: Clear pale yellow with luminous highlights, suggesting an incisive palate and an airy framework. The clarity of colour evokes a pure, taut style where the ageing integrates into the fruit without weight.
  • Nose: Intense floral expression driven by acacia and honeysuckle, accompanied by fresh citrus accents. With aeration, delicate notes of warm brioche and sliced almond emerge, supported by a mineral imprint that adds depth and distinction.
  • Palate: Broad attack then a salivating lift. Apricot flesh, a controlled buttery touch, brioche drive and soft almond combine in a harmonious score. The freshness, straight and sparkling, lengthens the finish with persistent elegance—typical of the great Puligny whites.

Serving temperature and advice

Serve between 11 and 13 °C in large white wine glasses to release the full aromatic complexity. Decanting about fifteen minutes before serving refines the aromas and reveals the oak's contours. This vintage has a cellaring potential of 3 to 5 years depending on storage conditions. Prefer a cool cellar, protected from vibrations and light, with consistent humidity. In the first two years you will enjoy its floral liveliness and chalky thread. After a few seasons the texture gains roundness, while almond and brioche notes integrate further without sacrificing fruit precision. This dual reading, immediate and evolving, makes it an especially versatile dining companion.

Food pairings

  • Aperitifs: seafood canapés, delicate fish rillettes, light gougères that converse with the wine's freshness and brioche accents.
  • Starters: poached eggs in white wine sauce, sea bream carpaccio, white asparagus with mousseline sauce, all emphasising the floral register and delicate texture.
  • Main courses: sea bream Provençale, roast poultry with a light jus, veal wrapped in ham or creamy herb risotto, to showcase the Chardonnay's buttery dimension and depth.
  • Cheeses: Chaource, Brillat-Savarin, Saint-Félicien and other soft, creamy cheeses that call for the silky texture and fresh length of the finish.
  • Desserts: thin apricot tart, lightly sweetened almond sablé, delicately candied citrus—serve sparingly to preserve the wine's balance.

Occasions to enjoy

The Puligny-Montrachet Village 2022, Louis Latour is the natural companion for moments when you seek the rightness of a great Burgundy white, between aromatic clarity and an enveloping texture.

  • To celebrate a special moment with a small group, when attention is on the finesse of details.
  • At a gourmet dinner where precise service and quality ingredients meet the elegance of the glass.
  • As an exceptional gift for a lover of fine Chardonnay, sensitive to the pure expressions of the Côte de Beaune terroirs.
