Description
Château Roc de Thau 2019 – The generosity of a characterful Côtes de Bourg
Located on the Right Bank of the Garonne River, in the heart of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, Château Roc de Thau produces sincere, full-flavoured red wines. The 2019 vintage, shaped by abundant sunshine and ideal harvest conditions, reveals a wine of structure, depth and balance that reflects the clay-limestone terroir of Bordeaux.
Mainly composed of Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc or Malbec depending on the plot, this wine delivers expressive fruit, vintage power and well-managed oak aging. A generous red that’s both accessible and substantial, ideal for food pairings and casual meals alike.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose reveals ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), violet, liquorice and a delicate hint of oak. On the palate, it opens with volume and smooth tannins, offering flavours of spiced fruit and black cherry compote. The finish is long, warm and harmonious.
Serving temperature and advice
Serve between 17 and 18°C (62–64°F) after at least 30 minutes of decanting. This wine is ready to drink now, but will also evolve well over 4 to 6 years. Its structure will soften with age, revealing more complexity over time.
Food pairings
This Right Bank red pairs beautifully with:
- Grilled or braised red meats
- Roast pork with herbs or lamb with thyme
- Hearty regional dishes (beef stew, pot-au-feu, cassoulet)
- Aged hard cheeses (Cantal, Tomme, Abondance)
Moments of enjoyment
Château Roc de Thau 2019 is ideal for family meals, rustic dishes or autumn evenings. Its balance and sincerity will please classic Bordeaux lovers as well as those looking for character without overpowering tannins or oak.
