Description

Among the great Médoc signatures, the Château Batailley 2015, 5th Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac AOC, stands out as a wine of balance and distinction, born from the deep gravel soils that border the Gironde. This sunny vintage produced a wine both ample and precise, whose aromatic nobility is matched by a very accurate tannic architecture. It addresses taste connoisseurs seeking a characterful Pauillac, capable of pairing with refined regional cooking as well as contemporary gastronomy. On the table, it easily resolves demanding pairings, combining sculpted power and fresh sap, marking a fine culinary moment. The terroir’s imprint appears in a bouquet calling up pure blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, blond tobacco and delicate spices. The palate, edged by elegant oak ageing in barrels, unfolds deep material without heaviness, with firm yet already caressing tannins. This is a wine for conversation and memory, built for ageing, which will travel the years gracefully and gain complexity over time.

Assemblage et vinification

This textbook Pauillac puts Cabernet Sauvignon in the spotlight for structure, uprightness and length, complemented by Merlot which brings flesh and suppleness. A touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot sculpt the outlines, reinforcing the spicy register and depth of texture. Vinification, carried out with respect for the fruit and precision, aims for fine extraction to preserve aromatic purity and the wine’s drive. The wine is aged in oak barrels, some of them new, to refine the tannic framework, enrich the bouquet with a delicate oaky note and promote overall harmony. The result is a chiselled, vibrant red that combines intensity and elegance, ready to open after careful decanting while promising an engaging evolution in the cellar.

Notes de dégustation

  • Robe : Deep garnet with purple highlights, clear and intense, announcing generous substance and good concentration.
  • Nez : Bright blackcurrant and blackberry, followed by cedar, blond tobacco, liquorice and mild pepper, with the typical graphite thread of Pauillac and a touch of violet on aeration.
  • Bouche : Broad attack, tight and velvety mid-palate, polished tannins, juicy black fruit flavours lifted by fine spices and integrated oak. Long, straight, flavorful finish carried by precise freshness.

Température de service et conseils

Serve between 16–18°C in large Bordeaux glasses to open the bouquet and support the wine’s substance. A decant of around 1 hour is advisable for this vintage to reveal fruit depth and soften the tannic texture. Store bottles on their side, away from light, between 12 and 14°C, with stable humidity. The ageing potential is remarkable, from 15 to 25 years depending on cellar conditions, with a progressive peak that will highlight tertiary notes of cigars, fine woods and undergrowth. This wine contains sulfites.

Accords mets et vin

  • Apéritifs : cured ham, warm black pudding bites, duck rillette on toast.
  • Entrées : beef carpaccio, sautéed porcini with parsley, spiced hare terrine.
  • Plats : aged côte de bœuf, Pauillac rack of lamb with an herb crust, roast duck, game birds in season.
  • Fromages : aged Comté, Salers, extra-old Mimolette, matured sheep tomme.
  • Desserts : lightly sweetened dark chocolate mousse, spiced poached pear, understated praline dessert.

Moments de dégustation

Château Batailley 2015 is the ideal companion:

  • To celebrate an exceptional dinner where conversation and dishes call for a noble, nuanced red.
  • At a Sunday meal around a joint of beef or a roast lamb, when the table brings together aesthetes and gourmets.
  • As a gift for a connoisseur, promising cellaring potential and pleasure over the years.
