Symbol of a precise art of blending, Champagne Louis Roederer Collection 244 Gift Box reveals a luminous weave, born from the 244th harvest and enhanced by a perpetually maintained reserve. The fine bubbles trace a delicate relief, carried by aromas of white fruits, citrus and gentle spices, then by a broad, chiselled palate with sovereign freshness. Partial oak ageing, a measured dosage and the pursuit of balance define a cuvée with character, ideal as an aperitif and throughout the meal. Served between 10 and 12°C, this high-style Brut delivers a vibrant, nuanced and thoroughly contemporary experience.
Description
Born of Maison Louis Roederer's visionary exacting standards, Collection 244 follows the lineage of great atelier works, where every stroke extends the memory of the craft. Illuminated by the 244th harvest, whose base year is 2019, this cuvée draws on a perpetually maintained reserve that forms a true aromatic backbone, bringing consistency, depth and energy. The presence of reserve wines aged in oak enriches the texture with savoury nuances, while a controlled dosage at 7 g/l refines the silhouette. The result, presented in a gift box, combines the spirit of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne terroirs, and celebrates an unostentatious, precise and vibrant style, devoted to pleasure. The bubbles, very fine, unfold a ballet of sensations between frank intensity and a caressing texture. On the nose, a burst of stone fruits and citrus mingles with notes of spice and vanilla, like a score alternating brightness and creaminess. On the palate, the material opens with breadth and rectitude, sustained by clear freshness and a delicate salinity that lengthen the finish and whet the appetite. Collection 244 speaks to aesthetes, the curious and lovers of balance, answering the modern desire for a champagne that is at once readable and complex, capable of accompanying a moment with grace, from the first toast to the last bite.
Assemblage et vinification
Produced from Champagne's three emblematic grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier, Collection 244 marries verticality, brightness and generosity. The 2019 base is united with a perpetual reserve made up of the 2012 to 2018 vintages, integrated at around 36%, which imprints texture and relief. In addition, nearly 10% of reserve wines aged in oak, from vintages between 2009 and 2016, bring a subtle patina, a touch of noble spice and a broader dimension. Partial malolactic fermentation, around 35%, preserves the wine's energy while softening edges, and the dosage, set at 7 g/l, signs a precise Brut with exemplary balance. The terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne provide a mosaic of sensations, between chalky tension, sun-kissed fruit and floral elegance.
Notes de dégustation
- Robe : Pale gold with straw highlights, animated by a fine, regular effervescence that draws a delicate, persistent cordon, a promise of a precise and luminous palate.
- Nez : Initial surge of white and yellow fruits, peach, pear, lemon zest, carried by ripe citrus notes. Then come tender vanilla, a hint of anise and a breath of gentle spices, all punctuated by a slightly smoky, iodised touch that adds dimension.
- Bouche : Generous, caressing attack, quickly balanced by a straight freshness. The texture is plush without weight, crossed by a mineral thread that stretches the finish. Floral expression, noble citrus bitters and a discreet salinity leave a clean, flavourful and persistent impression.
Température de service et conseils
To reveal its radiance, serve this champagne between 10 and 12°C in tulip-shaped tasting glasses, which encourage aromatic expression without restraining effervescence. Open the bottle a few minutes before serving to allow the aromas to unfold. Store it away from light, at a stable temperature, ideally in a cellar or a cool, ventilated space. While the cuvée tastes delightful today, it can evolve harmoniously over the years under proper conditions, gaining complexity and integration. When serving, favour a slow rise in temperature rather than a sudden chill, to preserve the finesse of the bubbles and the balance of the palate.
Accords mets et vin
- Apéritifs : comté gougères, parmesan tartlets, delicate fish rillettes, gravlax salmon, iodised bites that answer the wine's tension.
- Entrées : lime-dressed scallop carpaccio, fine oysters, sea bream ceviche, dill salmon tartare, playing on freshness and salinity.
- Plats : herb-roasted poultry, lemon and asparagus risotto, just-rosé veal fillet, delicate dishes that embrace the Brut's generous texture.
- Fromages : aged comté, parmesan, creamy-brie, where salt and texture meet the wine's directness.
- Desserts : thin citrus tart, lemon shortbread, vanilla entremets, lightly sweet desserts that extend the finish without overpowering it.
