€201.33 /L
Born from a terroir with an almost musical charm, the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru « Les Chatelots » 2022 from Domaine Louis Latour pairs the elegance of Pinot Noir with the precision of a master craftsman. Bright ruby robe, aromas of blackcurrant and forest floor, a fluid palate with silky tannins, together they shape a lace-like wine with lasting definition. Aged in oak barrels, it blends aromatic finesse with impressive poise, reflecting a well-ripened 2022 vintage in Burgundy. Serve at 15–17°C; it pairs beautifully with bold cuisine, from truffled duck shepherd's pie to Brillat-Savarin. A subtle expression of the Côte de Nuits, designed to delight demanding palates and elevate dining moments.
Description
From one of Chambolle-Musigny's most discreet climats, the 1er Cru Les Chatelots 2022 from Domaine Louis Latour celebrates the purity of Pinot Noir with a rare delicacy of texture. This lieu-dit, whose name recalls old water retenues, produces a wine with a silky grain, upright freshness and perfectly channelled aromatic intensity. In the luminous and generous 2022 vintage in Burgundy, the house delivers an interpretation where finesse outweighs power, and where the lift of fruit meets the depth of the terroir. A red that appeals to the aesthete seeking nuance over bravado, enjoyed as much for its tactile grace as for its length, a true thread on the gastronomic table.
Blend and vinification
Made from Pinot Noir 100%, this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru comes from vines with an average age of around 35 years, rooted in a clay-limestone soil that ensures measured water supply and a taut aromatic expression. The grapes, hand-picked (hand-harvested) to preserve berry integrity, are vinified using a traditional fermentation in open vats that promotes gentle extraction of colour and tannins. A complete malolactic fermentation softens the acidity and rounds out the structure. Elevage of 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, including 40% new from the Louis Latour cooperage with moderate toasting, gives the wine measured breathing room, discreet oak and fine spice without masking the fruit. The yield of around 35 hl/ha naturally concentrates the material while preserving the lightness typical of Chambolle.
Tasting notes
- Appearance : Clear ruby with bright highlights, announcing a pure material and a caressing texture. The brightness of the disc underlines the youth and precision of the vintage.
- Nose : Initially restrained, it opens on blackcurrant and a hint of forest floor. With aeration, delicate dark fruit accents and a touch of soft spices emerge, supported by finely integrated oak.
- Palate : Fresh on the attack with a finely chiselled progression, featuring silky tannins with a fine grain. The fruit stretches through the length, the finish gains persistence and definition without harshness, in an airy and flavoursome balance.
Serving temperature and advice
Serve this 1er Cru between 15 and 17°C in large Burgundy glasses to amplify its nuances and soften its frame. A short aeration before serving awakens the dark fruit notes and refines the oak weave. Store bottles quietly, away from light, to let the wine continue its development. Its cellaring potential of 7 to 10 years will add further patina, increasing complexity and harmony.
Food pairings
- Apéritifs : comté gougères, parsley-cured ham, small wild mushroom toasts.
- Starters : soft-centred egg with mushrooms, thin poultry tart, delicate game terrine.
- Main courses : truffled duck shepherd's pie, woodcock salmis, wild boar with lingonberries, roast guinea fowl with a reduced jus.
- Cheeses : Brillat-Savarin, Époisses served at room temperature, Brillat-Savarin fully ripened.
- Desserts : lightly sweetened thin red fruit tart, roasted pear in a light syrup.
