Description

Among the historic climats of Chambolle-Musigny, the 1er Cru "Baudes" 2022 from Domaine Joseph Drouhin offers a composition of great purity, where the grace of Pinot Noir meets the limestone depth of the Côte de Nuits. Nestled below the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares, this named vineyard produces a wine with a silky mouthfeel and a finely chiselled structure, its noble aromatic profile evoking peony, violet and bright black fruits. The sunny yet well-balanced 2022 vintage reveals vibrant fruit, an energy that lifts the finish, and a finely tannic texture that barrel ageing polishes without ever masking. A cuvée of strong gastronomic character, it appeals to those seeking lace-like finesse and depth, the precision of a great Burgundy and the promise of serene cellaring.

Blend and winemaking

This wine is a Pinot Noir from the Les Baudes climat in Chambolle-Musigny, on the Côte de Nuits. The vines root in Jurassic limestone soils, east-facing, providing natural drainage and regular ripening. The harvest is carried out by hand then rigorously sorted. Fermentation and maceration take place in open vats for 2 to 3 weeks, with the addition of indigenous yeasts, in order to preserve the terroir's individuality. Extraction is conducted delicately to favour balance and finesse. Maturation lasts 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, of which around 25% new wood, giving a subtle oak that serves the expression of fruit and soil.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance: Bright, vivid red, clear, with luminous highlights that announce a pure and delicately concentrated expression.
  • Nose: Complex bouquet of violet, peony and black cherry, underscored by blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant. With aeration, notes of forest floor, humus and truffle, with a hint of kirsch. An impression of aromatic lace that gains intensity over time.
  • Palate: Caressing attack, silky tannins perfectly integrated. The mid-palate unfolds with a spicy backbone, ample and full-bodied without heaviness, carried by structuring freshness. The finish, long and savoury, extends the black fruit and reveals echoes of candied fruit and a fine touch of kirsch.

Serving temperature and advice

Serve between 16 and 18°C in large Burgundy glasses to reveal the texture and bouquet. A prior opening allows the wine to relax and gain complexity. Store bottles in a calm, constant-temperature environment, protected from light. This 1er Cru has an ageing potential of 10 to 20 years, and can develop further under perfect conditions, showing tertiary notes of truffle and forest floor while preserving its aromatic filigree.

Food pairings

  • Aperitifs: parsleyed ham, poultry pâté en croûte, light Comté gougères.
  • Starters: veal tartare with fine capers, perfect egg with chanterelles, mushroom puff pastry tart.
  • Main courses: roasted Bresse chicken, pigeon with reduced jus, morel risotto, honeyed veal with reduced jus, medium-rare duck with gentle spices.
  • Cheeses: aged Brillat-Savarin, tempered Époisses, mature Comté, Cîteaux.
  • Desserts: lightly sweetened black cherry tart, almond financier with Morello cherries, fruity pairings that preserve the wine's freshness.

Tasting occasions

The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Baudes" 2022 is the companion for selected moments, where precise cooking is expressed and conversation lingers in nuance.

  • For a gourmet dinner where accurate pairings elevate each course.
  • As a cellar bottle intended to reveal its complexity over the years.
  • As a connoisseur's gift that honours the great climats of Burgundy.
