Born under the Mistral winds, this legendary cuvée expresses the nobility of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's rolled pebbles with calm intensity. The Château de Beaucastel 2019 unites the thirteen historic grape varieties into an aromatic mosaic where dark fruits, spice and garrigue intertwine, supported by a silky texture and very steady tannins. Generous on the palate, it stretches into a persistent finish with notes of liquorice and graphite. A gastronomic, age-worthy wine, it elevates lamb, fine mushrooms and robust sauces, and benefits from aeration to reveal its full depth.

Description

Among the emblematic fine wines of the southern Rhône, the Château de Beaucastel 2019 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC stands out as a singular work, woven from complexity and harmony. Driven by the telluric power of the rolled pebbles and the freshness of the Mistral, this sunny vintage balances generosity with drive, offering rare aromatic depth. From the evocative first nose come the precision of noble spices, the pulp of dark fruit and the breath of garrigue. On the palate, the ample material nestles into a frame of fine, energetic tannins that carry the flavour far without weighing it down. Enthusiasts will find a top-tier red suited to haute cuisine, able to accompany an ambitious table service as well as moments of contemplation. Collectors will recognise a wine built to age, with remarkable potential, enhanced by élevage in foudres and a long history of organic viticulture. Celebrated by critics, it marries classicism with modern intensity, with a presence that is both suave and structured.

Assemblage et vinification

A singular expression of the appellation, Beaucastel blends the 13 cépages autorisés into an assemblage of rare complementarity, centred on Grenache and Mourvèdre in roughly equal parts, each close to 30%, enriched by around 15% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 5% Cinsault and a string of other historic varieties including Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc and Roussanne. The 70 hectares terroir, at the northern tip of the appellation and bathed in light, sits on quartz pebble soils that store daytime heat and release it slowly, promoting even ripening. In the cellar, the sought balance between breadth and freshness is achieved through a 12-month élevage in foudres, which refines the tannins without imposing oak flavours. Organic cultivation, initiated as early as the 1960s, helps the vines express themselves as purely as possible, while the Mistral cleanses the bunches and preserves aromatic clarity. The result is as much lace as velvet, in a construction of exemplary integrity.

Notes de dégustation

  • Robe : Deep, bright and intense ruby, edged with purple highlights, promising serene concentration and fully achieved ripeness.
  • Nez : Opulent and precise bouquet, with layers of blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, lifted by gentle spices, cocoa, brandied fruit and garrigue herbs. Balsamic touches and a nuance of blond tobacco compose a distinguished whole.
  • Bouche : Generous attack, silky mid-palate, frame of fine, vibrant tannins. Small dark fruits mingle with noble spices; the finish stretches long on liquorice and a streak of graphite, with freshness that sustains the persistence.

Température de service et conseils

To fully express itself, serve this wine between 15–17°C in large glasses that encourage the development of aromas. Decanting is recommended to harmonise the structure and free the spicy palette. With careful cellaring, protected from light and temperature fluctuations, this cuvée will gain in complexity and integration. Its peak is expected between 2026 and 2038, though those who enjoy youthful energy will already appreciate its vitality and presence, while cellar-aged bottles will reveal additional depth and a more chiselled frame.

Accords mets et vin

  • Apéritifs : puff pastry with tapenade, thin slices of mountain ham, Nyons black olives, served as a seasonal starter.
  • Entrées : thin tart with porcini, sautéed chanterelles with mild garlic, pressed confit beef cheek with a short thyme-and-lemon jus.
  • Plats : herb-crusted rack of lamb, braised blade, roasted partridge with juniper berries, lamb tagine with prunes and toasted almonds.
  • Fromages : mature comté, aged tomme, Sardinian pecorino, whose salinity and texture call for the wine's spicy depth.
  • Desserts : lightly sweet dark chocolate entremets, pears poached in wine and spices, served sparingly to let the wine retain its nobility.

Moments de dégustation

Beaucastel 2019 is the privileged companion for your exceptional moments:

  • To honour a gastronomic dinner where seasonal cuisine dialogues with the wine's depth.
  • At a large family table celebrating sharing, generosity and the memory of terroirs.
  • As a gift for a wine lover, promising luminous ageing and lasting emotion.
